- Oregon Rural Action Director of Community Organizing Zaira Sanchez discusses the significance of the community coming together for Dia de los Muerto (Day of the Dead) on Nov. 2, 2022, at Hermiston High School in Hermiston.
Whew! What a week it was. Election coverage kept us up late on Tuesday. By Friday, we were still writing stories on winners and the fallout from Election Day. Please visit us online at hermistonherald.com for those stories and more.
Morrow County recall
If you are a Morrow County voter who is not tired of elections, you are in luck. On Nov. 29, voters will be able to submit their ballots once again. This time, it will be to decide the fates of two of their three county commissioners.
Thanks to a petition, which accuses Jim Doherty and Melissa Lindsay of not doing a good job, voters will have the chance to recall the pair.
The latest issue of the Hermiston Herald explains this situation in a front-page story. This story includes the arguments for and against the commissioners.
Remembering the dead
Reporter Beau Glynn wrote a story that I think everyone will like. It describes a Day of the Dead celebration at Hermiston High School. Be sure to check it out.
While you’re reading up on the activities of our local students, take a look at pictures done by ace photographer Yasser Marte. Marte turned in some outstanding work that showed event organizers celebrating Dia de los Muertos with Hermiston students.
A great-great grandmother turns 100
Further into the paper, we have another story that is receiving a lot of buzz on social media. Community Editor Tammy Malgesini wrote a story about 100-year-old Hermiston resident Mabel Watson.
Watson hit the century mark Thursday, Nov. 10.
Judging from the online response, a lot of people have already read about this woman. who is a great-great grandmother six times over.
