The new Hermiston business Kidz Corner on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, offers secondhand children's and maternity clothes, as well as a wide array of accessories, toys and baby equipment.

Feb. 1 marked the first day of business for Kidz Corner, Hermiston’s only dedicated secondhand baby and children’s clothing and accessories shop.

It occupies a small blue house at 145 S.W. Fourth St., behind Bi-Mart. Originally built in 1920, the structure recently was renovated and converted for commercial use, although store owner Mandi Parsons liked how the property felt.

“It’s kind of like you’re walking into someone’s home,” she said.

The shop sells gently used clothes, shoes and accessories sizes preemie through 14, maternity clothes, diapers, toys and baby equipment such as strollers, highchairs, carriers, nursing pillows, bedding, bouncers and more.

Items are cleaned and sanitized prior to sale and the racks are replenished daily. Customers bring items in exchange for store credit, although Parsons said Kidz Corner occasionally buys in-demand items for cash.

The mother of three saw a need in the community for such a store.

”I’ve had a lot of customers tell me they’ve waited a long time for something like this to come in,” she said. “A secondhand children’s store was such a big part of when my girls were little, and I realized Hermiston didn’t have one and so that’s why I decided to open it.”

”Our main goal is to keep prices low within the store so that it’s affordable for everyone,” she added.

Parsons and her family are recent transplants to Hermiton from Union County. She wanted to be closer to her oldest daughter and grandchildren, who live in the Tri-Cities area.

Meanwhile, she’s enjoyed giving her still-at-home children roles in the new family business. Her middle daughter manages the shop and her youngest helps behind the scenes.

She said the store’s inception was, “Just good timing, and it just kind of fell into place and it has been such a blessing.”
