- Cathy Lloyd gives a heartfelt speech March 1, 2023, after accepting the woman of the year award at the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce’s 53rd annual Distinguished Citizens Awards at the Hermiston Community Center.
The past weekend was something of a big deal for the Hermiston Herald. We teamed up with the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center, the Oregon State University Extension Service and the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce to put on the inaugural Farm City Ag & Home Expo.
Our headline called it a “rousing success,” and we don’t think that was hyperbole or the HH tooting its own horn. More than 700 people came out for the expo, and that’s a big deal given that this was the first one and the weather across the region was not at its best.
Check out Herald reporter Beau Glynn’s overview.
You’ve probably noticed some new bylines in the Herald. We’ve reached out to some freelancers and news partnerships. The west side of Umatilla County and much of Morrow County just has so much going on, we’re looking at finding as many ways as we can to help cover it all.
Freelancer Laura Kostatd has delivered a couple of fine articles for the Herald. One story that might not be receiving the attention it deserves is her coverage on Morrow County receiving a chunk of public money to help with wildfire prevention.
Looking ahead, Beau is working on a hard news story that might seem like something from a big city, but it’s local: A conflict between Good Shepherd Primary Care Clinic and a patient over the patient’s gender identity.
