Thirteen Hermiston FBLA students qualify for nationals

HERMISTON — Future Business Leaders of America students at Hermiston High School fared well during the Oregon FBLA State Leadership Conference, held April 3-8 in Portland.

Two students earned state championships and 13 qualified for the FBLA National Leadership Conference, scheduled June 27-30 in Atlanta.

State champions were Gisselle Rivera in Spreadsheet Applications and Kaitlyn Crowther in Introduction to Business Concepts.

Other national qualifiers:

Pride Shelley, second in Accounting II; Kurt Clayson, second in Introduction to Marketing Concepts; Aiden Ryan, third in Cyber Security and third in Network Infrastructure; Adriana Gutierrez, third in Digital Video Production; Yahir Conejo-Garcia, third in Introduction to Information Technology; Seven Bahr, third in Word Processing; Cody Adams, fourth in Accounting II; Liana Jimenez, fourth in Advertising; Joseph Markwith, fourth in Cyber Security; and Gisselle Rivera, fourth in Word Processing. Also, the team of Pride Shelley and Fatima Venegas-Navejas earned a trip to nationals, placing third in Entrepreneurship.

Along with the national qualifiers, the following Hermiston students placed at state:

Seven Bahr, fifth in Cyber Security; Omar Silva Isabeles, fifth in Securities & Investments; Miranda Vivar, sixth in Word Processing; Joseph Markwith, sixth in Computer Problem Solving; Kurt Clayson, sixth in Introduction to Business Procedures; Adriana Gutierez, seventh in Broadcast Journalism; Yahir Conejo-García, seventh in Website Design; Kaitlyn Crowther, 10th in Introduction to Event Planning; and Adrianna Coleman, Liana Jimenez, and Fatima Venegas-Navejas teamed together and earned fifth in Marketing.

“The students should be very proud of their accomplishments as a first-year chapter,” FBLA advisor Denise Thornton said. “They all worked very hard and most of them sacrificed half of their Spring Break to attend the state conference.”
