Who are you and what do you do?

I am Jim Webb, I’m a retired missionary. I was a missionary with InFaith. InFaith is the longest and oldest mission organization in the United Stated, started in 1790 in Philadelphia. I’m also an elder at New Hope Church.

Where did you grow up? When did you come to Hermiston?

I grew up in Boise, Idaho, and then I met my wife there, we got married and long story I started working for the state of Oregon as an information specialist working on computers. And then I met this guy named Jim Borris in 1992 who got me into InFaith. I then moved to where my mission work would be in Eastern and Central Oregon, and my wife found a job in Hermiston doing physical therapy and we moved there.

What are a few of your hobbies?

I’m actually working on one of my hobbies right now. I do photography. Mainly landscape stuff, because you can obviously see God’s hand in what he’s made. I’m an avid disc golf player. My wife and I are on our mission and we have a conference in San Antonio, Texas, our son lives here and has a son and I just love playing with him. And we have a mini camper van and we headed out on the 11th of April and have seen such incredible things. By the time we arrived here in San Antonio we had hiked 70 miles so far on this trip.

How would you describe yourself?

I’m a Christian. I love Jesus with all my heart and soul. I’m also an evangelist, so I share the gospel in this country and other parts of the world. My wife and I are going to Nairobi, Kenya, to share the gospel down there. I’m also a husband and I love my wife and we have four sons who are great men and 10 grandkids now. So, I spend time with them and with my wife. It’s a great life.

What is something that you’re passionate about?

Obviously, I’m passionate about Jesus and being a Christian and helping people come to know Christ.

What are a few of your proudest accomplishments?

It isn’t what I’ve done but what Jesus does. As a missionary I’ve seen thousands of people become Christians. I forgot to tell you, I’m also a balloon artist.

What is something you think your community could use?

You know when we do “I Love My City” in May a bunch of churches get together and go out and meet with the city and do a lot of cleanups of junk and weeds and just making the city more aware. I love Desert Rose, their ministry and what they do. So just combining with Agape House and making the city more aware of how people can minister to other people and make people more aware of how they can help people.

What do you like most about the community you live in?

I love Hermiston. God assigned me to live in a small Connecticut town where no one wears camouflage and no pickup trucks. Just my personality I should go live there. I don’t wear camo; I don’t like hunting. But God has always put me around cowboys and trucks and farmers. I love Hermiston because we have friends here that we met like the first day when we were moving in here. Someone from the church we go to came down knocked on the door brought us cookies. Once you get to know people in Hermiston, you’re friends with everybody in Hermiston. You see people you know as you walk down the street. I once walked to the bank just down the street and it took 30 minutes just because I kept seeing people I know.
