Four Fast Food Chains Are Killing a McDonald’s Menu Favorite

McDonald’s may have sidelined the snack wrap, but its competitors certainly haven’t.

The Golden Arches haven’t featured a snack wrap since 2016, when McDonald’s  (MCD) – Get Free Report discontinued the popular menu item in the US due to slow sales and the longer prep time needed to get the wrap onto customers’ plates.

The fast-food chain’s customers aren’t giving up, as over 17,000 McDonald’s fans have signed a petition on Change.org to bring back the snack wrap, to no avail. While individual franchise owners can opt to serve snack wraps, the company’s general policy seems to indicate no snack wraps in McDonald’s future.

DON’T MISS: McDonald’s Brings Back a Classic Menu Item

That doesn’t mean its fast-food competition won’t take a crack at the snack wrap.

For example, Wendy’s  (WEN) – Get Free Report recently rolled out its Wendy’s Grilled Chicken Ranch Wrap, an herb-marinated grilled chicken wrap with cheddar cheese, romaine lettuce, and a creamy ranch sauce drizzle. The wrap, which appears to be considerably larger than the old McDonald’s chicken snack wrap, costs between $5 or $6, depending on the store location.

Old favorite Jack in the Box  (JACK) – Get Free Report is also adding a snack wrap to its menu in June 2023. The chain is bringing aboard two wraps – the Crispy Chicken Jack Wrap in classic and spicy options. The wraps are currently being tested in store locations in Southern California and are retailing – at least right now – for $3 a pop.

That’s not all.

Both Dairy Queen and Chick-fil-A are offering versions of McDonald’s old favorites.

Dairy Queen has added a Ranch Chicken crispy and grilled chicken snap wrap option for between $2 and $3, while Chick-fil-A has beaten every fast-food chain to the punch with its Cool Chicken Wrap since 2001

The massive wrap – at least relative to the McDonald’s version – costs $5.19 individually and $8.15 as a combo meal. The wrap comes with a choice of ranch dressing, honey mustard, barbecue sauce, creamy salsa, and balsamic dressing.

While it’s unique to see so many fast-food outlets champion the snack wrap when McDonald’s has discarded it, that status quo isn’t expected to change any time soon.

For the Golden Arches, at least, it’s a wrap.
