Three Minutes With… Kate Kopaczewski of Hermiston

Published 6:00 am Tuesday, May 9, 2023

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Kate Kopaczewski (sounds like Coke and Pepsi), and I am a mom, grandma, daughter, sister and friend as well as an artist and designer, teacher and businesswoman.

Where did you grow up? When did you come to Hermiston?

I was made in Texas, born in California, raised in Oregon and made my home in Idaho. I first moved to Hermiston (very reluctantly) in 2010 after struggling for a year after the ‘08 recession and graduating college. My mom lived here and suggested I “just come stay with her until I figured out what to do next.” I moved away to western Washington and Idaho and happily moved back in 2016.

What are a few of your hobbies?

DDPY (an awesome fitness program that I am passionate about). Studying the Bible and learning Hebrew history, dancing and all things Sasquatch.

How do you spend your free time?

Hanging out with my family and friends (especially my four awesome granddaughters), writing, rodeos and theater, collecting and trying out new art supplies and going on little adventures in the mountains and on the coast.

How would you describe yourself?

I am a joyful, brave, kind, artsy, free-spirited gypsy farm girl with a big heart for all God’s creatures.

What is something that you’re passionate about?

Loving and helping animals, loving and encouraging other people and loving Jesus.

What are a few of your proudest accomplishments?

Raising three amazing kids (who I am so proud of) as a single mom while working and earning my bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees. Creating the art for the Rodeo Red and Rodeo Rose wine labels for Echo Ridge Cellars and most recently starting a new adventure in opening an art studio/gallery and bistro coming this summer.

What do you like most about the community you live in?

Definitely the people. I’ve made so many friends and connections over the years here, this community is supportive, kind and solid and I really love them/it.
