STANFIELD — The Stanfield City Council at its meeting June 20 adopted the city’s budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year.

The total budget amounts to more than $10.46 million, split among 10 funds in the city. Compared to last year’s budget, which was about $8.33 million, the budget will increase by roughly 25% for the fiscal year.

City Manager Ben Burgener in his budget message said the city is in “very good shape financially.”

“Due to the conservative and strategic spending policy of the last several years that has allowed the city to build healthy carryover balances in each of (its) major funds, the city is prepared for several large projects this upcoming fiscal year,” he said.

The city’s general fund, which amounts to 57% of the year’s budget, is just shy of $4.38 million. The general budget covers personnel costs, materials and services, capital outlay, debt service and total transfers, reserves and contingency. For the upcoming fiscal year, the general fund allocation has increased by less than 10% percent from last year’s $4.31 million.

Within the general fund, $660,308 will be allocated to the city’s police department and $107,529 to the municipal court. A significant portion will be allocated to the city’s general administration, with $1.98 million.

The city allocated $1.16 million to its sewer fund, an increase of about 8.4% from last year’s $970,350.

The city’s water fund also received an increase, from $662,900 in the 2022-23 fiscal year to $743,500.

The street fund also received a boost, going from $481,250 in the previous cycle to $607,450 for this budget.
