STANFIELD — A Hermiston woman faces burglary and theft charges for allegedly breaking into storage units in Stanfield.

Elizabeth Baker, 26, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 30, and charged with three counts of first-degree theft, three counts of second-degree burglary and resisting arrest.

On Monday, Aug. 27, the Stanfield Police Department responded to a burglary at the Stanfield Self Storage units located at 175 Umatilla St., in Stanfield.

According to the police department, several storage units were broken into and property was stolen from multiple victims. Baker was identified as the suspect based on the evidence collected and the investigation to date, police said.

Baker was located around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and taken into custody following a brief scuffle with the officer when she resisted being arrested, according to reports. No injuries were sustained by Baker or the officer.

The investigation into these crimes is continuing, and additional arrests are anticipated, said Stanfield Police Chief Byron Zumwalt.

“I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the hard work of the Stanfield police officers who investigated this incident,” Zumwalt said. “Their diligence and hard work resulted in the identification of a suspect involved, with additional arrests pending, and they were able to return a substantial amount of property to the owners.”
