RICHLAND 2, HERMISTON 0 — After playing to a 0-0 tie at the half, the Bomber pulled away in the second half for a Mid-Columbia Conference win over the Bulldogs at Kennison Field.

“We lost to a really good Richland team,” Hermiston coach Omar Medina said. “We played some of the best soccer we have played this year tonight, and ready made Richland work for their two goals.”

Medina praised senior Dalia Cervantes and the Hermiston defense for their play.

“They were well organized and pressed the ball well the whole game,” Medina said. “We were a very different team tonight than the one that played on Saturday. I’m proud of the girls for fighting to the end.”

IRRIGON 36, UMATILLA 30 — Josiah Morena ran for two touchdowns as the Knights improved to 2-1 on the season with a nonleague home win over the Vikings.

Mason Harrison ran for 129 yards, and threw for 64 yards and a touchdown for the Knights. Defensively, he had four tackles and a strip sack that led to a Xander Olman 37-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.

“Mason Harrison had a great night and set the tone on offense,” Irrigon coach Andrew Castillo said. “Our defensive line, led by Brayden Locey, Saige Ely and Xander Olman played really well. Multiple sacks, tackles for a loss, and forced a lot of turnovers in the first half. Our goal was to get them out of their run game, which they are good at.”

Lee Harrison added 83 yards rushing and a touchdown for Irrigon, while Koebe Campos had 48 yards receiving, Zach Parton had six tackles, two for loss, and Lee Harrison had two sacks.

“Overall, I’m happy with the effort, but we still haven’t played a complete football game on both sides of the ball,” Castillo said. “We lose focus at crucial times, and way too many blown coverages tonight. We will watch film and try to fix it for next week.”

ENTERPRISE 64, PILOT ROCK 6 — The Rockets dropped their Special District 3 opener to the Outlaws, who held Pilot Rock to less than 100 yards of offense.

“They have some big kids,” Rockets coach Shane Munkers said. “Their offensive line pretty much manhandled us, and their running backs had big lanes to run for yards.”

Carter Vanhouten-Chase scored Pilot Rock’s touchdown on a 33-yards pass from Krister Litfin in the third quarter. Litfin threw for 44 yards.

“We tried to run the clock out a little bit,” Munkers said. “We ran the ball 25 times, but just couldn’t get it going. We took some sacks. We couldn’t get anything going offensively.”

The Rockets (2-1 overall, 0-1 SD3) will host Cove on Sept. 21.
