The Human Bean, a coffee shop located at 205 S. Highway 395 in Hermiston, will open soon, according to the four franchisees. The location is also hiring.

HERMISTON — Residents will gain another spot for coffee and treats this fall when The Human Bean opens its first Hermiston location at 205 S. Highway 395.

Franchisees Aaron and Brittney Beamer, of Hermiston, and Kevin and Cindy Granger, of Milton-Freewater, are currently working on the finishing touches.

“We are really excited to be a part of the Hermiston community and serving a good cup of coffee from one good human bean to another,” Brittney Beamer said.

Husband-and-wife teams have been part of the Medford-based Human Bean since the beginning. Dan and Rhonda Hawkins collaborated with Tom and Tami Casey to establish the first location in Ashland in 1998. Their new venture’s mission: to inspire human connection.

It has since made that connection in 260 locations through 21 states, with an extensive menu that features breakfast sandwiches, bagels, cake pops, coffee, tea, frozen granitas, smoothies and infused energy drinks.

“The first cup of coffee served had a chocolate-covered espresso bean on top, and so would every cup that followed, because The Human Bean believes in making even the smallest of exchanges memorable, kind, and sincere,” Brittany Beamer said, “ensuring every customer has their day brightened for the better as they drive away.”

Cindy Granger said Brittney has wanted to own a coffeeshop since 2009, when she worked as a barista at Sam’s Corner Market in Milton-Freewater.

“All four of us and Brittney’s kids loved the variety of drinks from coffee, smoothies, tea and energy drinks,” she said. “After looking into what The Human Bean stood for, we believed in their culture, values and integrity. It is a true fit for our family.”

In addition to coffee and food, The Human Bean serves communities in other ways. Each year, it generates revenue from various fundraisers such as Coffee for a Cure, Mochas for Men, Food Drive as well as Earth Day. Proceeds from these events benefit their cities.

“Their belief in supporting the community is a direct fit to our beliefs,” Granger said.

While becoming a franchisee takes time and commitment, the Beamers and Grangers are feeling a lot of community support.

“The journey of purchasing the land, to working with the city and all our contractors, we have been blessed,” Beamer said. “The positive comments from those who follow us on social media or have taken the time to stop by when we are working has kept our dream alive.”

In addition to community support, the couples are grateful for the journey.

“Seeing our location go from a gravel lot to a dream come true has been a long journey, but it has been meant to be and we are so looking forward to serving our community,” Granger said.
