HERMISTON — The Hermiston Police Department issued a warning to the public on its Facebook page about a “get-rich-quick” scheme going around Hermiston.
HPD was informed of a meeting on Sunday, Oct. 8, hosted by a business offering a “get-rich-quick” program with the target audience being Hermiston’s Latino population.
On its Facebook page, HPD emphasized that citizens should perform their due diligence research regarding companies offering outlandish opportunities or to find the appropriate person for whatever job or service a person may require.
“The Better Business Bureau, Construction Contractor’s Board, or any number of other consumer safety organizations can be found with a click of the mouse or a swipe of the finger,” the HPD post states. “A simple online search using the company’s name will often disclose known complaints or issues customers have encountered with a business. Conversely, you may find out the business is A+ rated with a ton of happy customers. We would just like to remind people that if something seems to be too good to be true, it often turns out to be exactly that. Do your homework, protect yourself and your hard-earned money, and know we are here when you need us.”
Mark Gomolski, chairman of Hermiston’s Hispanic Advisory Council, said he attended the Oct. 8 meeting hosted by the Vicion Group to sign up new members in the Hispanic community for an investment group.
According to its website, the Vicion Group’s goal is to create a system where its investors “make profits 24 hours a day” and where “company and investors and businesses participants obtain benefits, through discount coupons, where they will have savings” when using its “promotional coupon campaign.”
Gomolski said he researched the company online and discovered it was connected to two other companies offering “get-rich-quick” schemes.
“Everything I learned about this company shows that many members of our community are going to be hurt by this scheme,” he said. “We need to get the word out to expose this plot to use our Hispanic community.”
