New Stanfield flower shop an ‘ode to my dad’

STANFIELD — Stanfield has a new flower shop.

Katie Barthel opened Dannie’s Floral Boutique on Nov. 1 at 135 W. Coe Ave. She said she named the shop after her father, Dannie Walchli, who died from brain cancer in early 2020.

“This is all just like an ode to my dad and everything that he taught me in life,” she said. “That’s where it came from to take the lead of opening my own business.”

Barthel was born and raised in Hermiston. Her grandparents own Walchli Farms there. She said she has been making floral arrangements at home since February, then had the opportunity to take the next step and operate her own brick-and-mortar storefront.

“I just try to be a little bit different,” she said, with some focus on purse bouquets. Eventually, she said, she wants to get into providing flowers for events.

She owns and operates the business and receives some help from her husband, Andrew Barthel, and other family members.

Business at Dannie’s Floral has been steady in the first week, she said, although the recent rain may be tamping down foot traffic. Still, she said she has some regular clientele who order from her.
