UMATILLA — A minor died Sunday, Dec. 24, in a SUV crash in Umatilla.

Oregon State Police reported the fatal crash but has not released the identity of the victim.

The single-vehicle incident occurred at approximately 6:37 a.m. on Interstate 82 near milepost 1 outside Umatilla.

The preliminary investigation indicated Jose Angel Alonso, 32, of San Diego, was driving a Chevrolet Traverse westbound when it hit the barrier on the bridge. The Chevrolet then crossed the highway into the dirt median where it rolled.

The crash ejected a minor passenger, who died at the scene. Two other minor passengers suffered injuries and went to a local hospital.

Emergency medical personnel checked Alonso, who remained at the scene during the investigation.

The crash investigation affected traffic on the highway for approximately three hours.
