Echo’s Kohlvin Wyse (11) looks to pass the ball Jan. 12, 2023, playing against Niiyaawii at Echo High School.

ECHO — Nevaeh Thew hit six 3-pointers and finished with 28 points to lead Echo to a 69-39 Old Oregon League win over Nixyaawii on Friday, Jan. 12.

“The Echo girls did an excellent job of putting four quarters together,” Echo coach Brandi Russell said. “We are starting to get into some rhythms with our player rotations, and several girls are consistently putting up double digits in scoring. When we can get five to seven girls to score around 10 points each, we are difficult to beat.”

Thew scored 12 of her points in the first half as the Cougars (10-4 overall, 2-0 OOL) jumped out to a 34-14 lead.

Thew added 13 points in the third quarter, and Kenzie Hendrix added seven as Echo went on a 24-15 run to put the game out of reach.

Hendrix and Cameron Estes each added 10 points for the Cougars, while Mayela De La Fuente chipped in eight.

Ella Stewart led the Golden Eagles (4-8, 1-1) with 16 points, while Annalise Watchman added seven, and Liana Stewart six.

“Nix has some good players, and with more height than we do, so we knew we did not want to get into a half-court game with them,” Russell said. “We kept pressure on the ball, and had a good shooting night. The girls rebounded well and reduced their turnovers. Given all the obstacles to even play the game tonight, I am proud of their performance.”

HERMISTON 71, SOUTHRIDGE 56 — Even with leading scorer Izzy Simmons out with an injury, the Bulldogs cruised to a Mid-Columbia Conference win over the Suns at the Dawg House.

Ellie Heideman scored eight of her 18 points in the second as the Bulldogs stretched their lead to 33-20 at the half.
