Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin plans to be with the team next season.
Tomlin reportedly addressed the team in a meeting on Tuesday, during which he said speculation about his stepping down as coach is unfounded and that he plans to return for the 2024 campaign, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.
Tomlin made clear on Monday that he wasn’t ready to talk about his future with the organization in the aftermath of the team’s wild-card loss against the Buffalo Bills, walking out of the postgame press conference when reporters broached the topic.
Tomlin is entering the final year of his contract with the Steelers, having been the team’s coach since 2007. The team hasn’t had a losing season during his tenure, throughout which he’s registered a 173-100-2 record.
Pittsburgh has reached the playoffs in three of the last four seasons, though the Steelers have not won a postseason game since 2016.
Tomlin had penned a three-year contract extension in 2021 which is set to expire after the ‘24 season. Although he wasn’t interested in speaking on his future on Monday, Garafolo reports that he’s since discussed the situation with the Steelers, informing the team of his plans to return for an 18th season
