Other views: Former president only cares about himself

I’m a 69-year-old retired schoolteacher and an independent voter. I have voted both Republican and Democrat in the past. I just have to comment on the current state of our nation.

It’s unbelievable the run of bad luck that Donald Trump has had to endure since he became a politician. Let’s begin with the Iowa caucuses in 2016. He did not win, but it was rigged. He then lost the Wisconsin primary, but it was also rigged.

He predicted up to six months before the 2020 presidential election that it was going to be rigged if he did not win. I can certainly understand why he would think that way, because look at all the bad luck he had previously experienced.

After the voting concluded and the results showed that he had lost the election, he contacted the Republican secretary of state in Georgia to see if he could find him 11,000 votes. That’s all he was asking for — just 11,000. After all, he was president at the time, seems fair enough.

About the same time he contacted a Republican state senator in Arizona to try to get him to change the vote in his favor. Now this senator had voted for him, but he decided he could not do what Trump was asking. Now, Trump, feeling that those two individuals did the wrong thing, tweeted out to his followers about their disloyal behavior.

What’s wrong with that? He just wanted them to do the right thing. They deserved it.

As far as I can tell, the Justice Department is claiming that Trump tried to get fake electors to represent some battleground states that he lost. With Jan. 6 looming and the electoral college vote about to take place, Trump tried to get his vice president, Mike Pence, to do the right thing and conduct the Electoral College vote a little differently than normal.

Well, Pence chose not to do that and Donald was a little bit disappointed by that decision. After four years of loyal support to Trump, all of a sudden his vice president turned out to be a coward.

During his stop the steal rally on Jan. 6, Trump let his followers know that Mike Pence had let them down. He also covered all the election rigging that had taken place. He then sent them to the Capitol to save their country. Earlier in the election cycle during a town hall, he had politely asked the Proud Boys to step down and standby.

Now after an hour or two of watching what was going on, Trump was still a little bit upset with his vice president for not doing the right thing. So he decided to put out a tweet, letting his followers know that he was not happy about it.

Even though the protesters were chanting, “Hang Mike Pence,” he decided to do it anyway, because Mike had let them down. I believe what happened next was Trump, being a little bit upset about the outcome of his attempt to remain in power so he could spare the country the results of a corrupt and rigged election, decided to take a few things with him to Mar-a-Lago.

What’s wrong with that? After all, he was still the president. He should’ve been able to take whatever he wanted.

When the federal agency in charge of that type of stuff asked him to return it, Trump chose to ignore them.

Finally, after several months of attempting to get the stuff back, the federal government decided they were going to have to raid his castle. Now just because there were classified documents, and some items that may have hurt our national security, that’s no reason to go after Trump.

I’m thinking a lot of people may not have chosen to watch the Jan. 6 hearings for various reasons. I want to thank Susan Bower for her guidance in helping the people avoid all the drama that I’ve talked about, so they could make a good choice when they vote for president.

I’m sure anyone giving out that kind of advice would’ve seen those hearings. Now I believe there are a lot of good Americans, including an older relative of mine, that are supporting Donald Trump because they believe him when he says the election was stolen.

My fear is that when the people of this country don’t believe in the election results we’re headed for big trouble. It truly is unbelievable to me that after all these years of presidential elections, where the loser concedes the election so the country can move forward that a 77-year-old with the character traits of a spoiled rotten 10-year-old could rip this country apart with his lies.

I’ve seen him hug the flag and hold up a Bible in front of a church and claim that he is totally innocent of all the charges. My conclusion is that Donald is lying and that he does not care about you or this country. If he truly did, why would he put the country through this?

I think I know why. I think it’s because he cares only about himself.
