The Milwaukee Bucks are in the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday night for a matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers—a game which pits Damian Lillard against his former team.
It’s Lillard’s first visit to Portland since being traded to the Bucks during the offseason, and when speaking to reporters ahead of the game, he admitted it was emotional to be back in the city.
Lillard was asked if he’d ever consider returning to the Trail Blazers, to which he admitted that he envisions a day in which he puts on the team’s uniform again.
“Because of how I feel about Portland… my time that I’ve spent here. In my mind, that’s where I always felt that my career would end,” said Lillard, via Jamal Collier of ESPN.
Lillard, 33, spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the Trail Blazers, who selected him with the No. 6 pick in the 2012 NBA draft. He’s the franchise’s all-time leading scorer and made seven All-Star teams throughout his tenure in Portland.
The Blazers and Bucks squared off back in November in a matchup at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, during which Lillard scored 31 points in a 108–102 Bucks win.
Now, he’s set to face his former team at the Moda Center for the first time, a stadium he called home for over a decade.
“I’m not going to cry or anything like that. But I’m also not going to hide the emotion because it’s a moment that means a lot to me and a lot of other people,” Lillard said of his return, via Sean Highkin of Rose Garden Report.
