A Dallas, Ore., man was killed in a farming accident at a dairy operation south of Corvallis, Ore., the afternoon of Feb. 1.

David Breyman III was 56.

Breyman was working for a trucking and feed company based out of Polk County, according to a news release from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

Public safety workers responded to the scene at 2:45 p.m.

Breyman was alone and in the process of unloading a truck carrying 27 tons of corn meal feed, and using a trailer’s unloading mechanism.

The feed apparently caused a gate to swing open and push Breyman against a barn wall, pinning him.

A nearby farmworker heard Breyman yell, used his phone to call for help and shut off the trailer unloading mechanism to stop it from piling up more feed.

Benton County deputies arrived and found Breyman unconscious, not breathing and without a pulse.

Deputies and residents on scene attempted lifesaving efforts but were unsuccessful.

Corvallis Fire Department personnel arrived soon after and assisted in freeing Breyman by removing part of the wall. They also attempted lifesaving measures without success.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family,” said Benton County Sheriff Jef Van Arsdall. “Your dedication to put food on our tables does not go unnoticed and we’re terribly sorry for your loss.”
