HEPPNER — Stanfield ran the table in the Blue Mountain Conference, finishing 10-0 Thursday, Feb. 8, with a 76-61 victory over Heppner.
“That was a hard-fought win,” Stanfield coach Rylie Smith said. “Heppner came to play, but we were able to finish out league undefeated. We are happy to win outright, but we have some goals to accomplish still.”
The No. 9 Tigers (16-5), who opened the season 1-5, have won 15 games in a row. They will be the top seed at the BMC district tournament next week at the Pendleton Convention Center.
The Mustangs (13-10, 6-4), who had their four-game win streak snapped, played with the Tigers in the first quarter, trailing just 17-14.
Stanfield put together an 18-12 run in the second for a 35-26 lead at the half. A 41-35 advantage in the second half allowed the Tigers to pull away for good.
Pablo Arellano led the Tigers with 27 points, while Connor Logan added 12, and Israel Monkus 10.
Caden George led Heppner with 17 points, while Mason Orem had 16, and Landon Mitchell 10. The Mustangs left points on the floor after hitting just 13 of 25 free throws.
