HERMISTON — Black smoke filled the air Monday afternoon, Feb. 12, as a result of a fire that broke out at Bert’s Auto Salvage in Hermiston.

Umatilla County Fire District No. 1 crews were dispatched at 1:36 p.m. to a report of a vehicle fire at Bert’s Auto Salvage on Baggett Lane. Upon arrival, crews came across multiple vehicles in the salvage lot that were on fire. Crews worked with Bert’s Auto Salvage crane crew to put out the fire.

By around 3:30 p.m., crews had the fire under control. Crews remained on the scene to put out hot spots. Mutual aid was provided by the Echo Fire Department and Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District.
