By the way: EOCenes concert features Hermiston’s Ron Emmons

- EOCenes performed before sold-out crowds during a pair of Round-Up week shows in 2017. The bluegrass group, which includes Ron Emmons, of Hermiston, will perform a special spring show on May 6, 2024, at Pendleton Center for the Arts.
Ron Emmons, of Hermiston, is rounding up several of his old college buddies for a bluegrass concert featuring EOCenes. Emmons, frontman for Cabbage Hill, has played mandolin and sung lead tenor and baritone with the Blue Mountain Crested Wheatgrass Boys, the Muddy Bottom Boys, Blue Heat and The Thatchmasters.
EOCenes also features Duane Boyer (banjo/guitar and sings lead, tenor and baritone); Hugh McClellan (rhythm guitar/harmonica and is known for his low, lonesome bass voice); and Hal Spence (guitar and sings tenor). The show includes Alan Feves on bass and Doug Jenkins, a champion fiddle performer.
The concert is May 6, 7 p.m. at Pendleton Center for the Arts, 214 N. Main St. Tickets are $15 via www.pendletonarts.org or by calling 541-278-9201.
EOCenes typically plays before sellout crowds during Pendleton Round-Up week. PCA Executive Director Roberta Lavadour encourages people to purchase tickets early.

The unveiling of a new accessibility feature at Funland Playground is Tuesday, April 23, 5 p.m. at Butte Park, 1245 NW Seventh St., Hermiston. Light refreshments will be served.
Hermiston Parks and Recreation and the Hermiston Lions Club partnered with the Accessible Ed & Disability Resources department at Portland Community College to develop and design a tactile map for Funland Playground. It provides individuals who are blind or visually impaired an opportunity to perceive information about the park through raised surfaces, textures, braille and symbols.
“This tactile map embraces Hermiston’s identity as an inclusive community and ensures children with visual impairment can explore and enjoy the park,” Recreation Director Brandon Artz said.
