Boardman’s Jumpstart Java owner to start local roastery

BOARDMAN — A new coffee roaster is coming to town, but the owner has a familiar face.

Heather Baumgartner, owner of Jumpstart Java, is taking over and rebranding Home Town Coffee Roasters as Boardman Bean Roasters starting June 1.

The roastery will offer the same blends under new names and be based in Boardman. Baumgartner said Home Town’s owner, Tami Williamson, has supplied the espresso for Jumpstart Java for years.

In an email on Thursday, May 9, Baumgartner said Williamson sent a notice about her retirement in late April and when she received it, she knew she needed to step in. She has owned Jumpstart Java since 2013, and partnered with Home Town shortly after it opened in Arlington in 2018.

“She has been invaluable in imparting her expertise and has entrusted us with her equipment and inventory,” Baumgartner said. “When Tami expressed her intention to retire and she mentioned possibly asking a different coffee roaster to provide espresso beans for us, we knew we couldn’t let that happen.”

Baumgartner also said current clients of Home Town need not worry; she is setting up a new space in her home — which will be ready to roast starting June 1 — and will continue supplying coffee to them.

“We believe in fostering relationships and supporting the community wherever possible,” she said.

Baumgartner, who also works as chief operations officer at the Boardman Chamber of Commerce, said that while the recipes will stay the same, she’s rebranding them.
