From the publisher’s desk: Acknowledging the moms in our life

Published 7:00 am Sunday, May 12, 2024

With Mother’s Day now come and gone, it was a significant occasion deserving of our attention.

The day was dedicated to honoring the remarkable women who have shaped our lives — be it our own mothers, grandmothers, aunts, or any maternal figure. It was a time to express gratitude for their boundless love, sacrifices and unwavering support.

Let’s acknowledge the truth: being a mom is no easy feat. It’s a round-the-clock responsibility with no breaks or sick days. From changing diapers to imparting wisdom (even when we resist), moms are there through every challenge, ready to offer assistance or a listening ear.

However, Mother’s Day wasn’t solely about flowers and chocolates (though they’re always appreciated). It was about pausing to say a sincere “thank you” and truly meaning it. It was about recognizing the countless daily gestures mothers make without expecting anything in return.

For some, Mother’s Day could evoke mixed emotions. For those who had lost their mothers or couldn’t be with them, it could stir up feelings of sadness or nostalgia. Yet, it was important to also celebrate the love shared and cherish the memories.

Whether you planned a lavish family brunch, sent a heartfelt card, or simply gave mom a call to say “I love you,” taking the time to convey how much she meant was essential. Moms are the unsung heroes of the world, deserving of our love and appreciation not just on Mother’s Day, but every single day.
