BOARDMAN — Food, vendor booths, games, activities and prizes are all a part of the Morrow County Children’s Fair.

In its 22nd year, the free event is Thursday, May 23, 4-6 p.m. at the Port of Morrow, 2 Marine Drive, Boardman — it will be held both indoors and outdoors.

Because of the event’s popularity, a South Morrow County Children’s Fair was added this year in Heppner. The April 4 event drew nearly two dozen vendor booths.

HERMISTON — The Arc of Umatilla County is lending a hand for your Father’s Day meal.

As a fundraiser to support its summer programs and activities throughout the year, it is taking orders for tri-tip roasts, each weighing 2-3 pounds. The preparation options include cooked/seasoned, fresh/seasoned or fresh/unseasoned. The cost is $40.

Orders must be submitted by Friday, May 24. The meat will be available for pickup on June 15, 11 a.m. to noon at Kennison Field at Hermiston High School.

HERMISTON — To help refuel the blood supply, the American Red Cross is offering incentives to donors, and those who donate through May 31 will receive a coupon via email for a free haircut at Sport Clips.

HERMISTON — Runners and walkers can help raise money for Hermiston High School graduates during Run 4 Marissa.

In its third year, the 5K run/walk raises money for the Marissa Worstell Path for Change Memorial Scholarship. The event is June 8, 8 a.m. at the Oxbow Trail at Riverfront Park, 500 SW 23rd St., Hermiston. Registration is $30.

The scholarship program, which is administered through the Oregon Community Foundation, was started in memory of Marissa Worstell, a 2011 HHS graduate. The fund provides opportunities for students who need help to pursue their educational goals.

HERMISTON — Friends of the Hermiston Public Library are having their book sale early this year, May 30-June 1.

Member Night will be 5-7 p.m. on May 30. Member Night is for members of the Friends of the HPL only, but anyone can become a member. It’s the perfect time to get first crack at the books if you are a member or to become a member.

The sale for the general public will be held from 4-8 p.m. on May 31 and from 9 a.m. to noon on June 1. From 1-3 p.m. on June 1, books will be on sale for $4 per bag.

Due to the upcoming remodel of the library, the sale will take place across the street at Hermiston City Hall.

HERMISTON — Good Shepherd Health Care System’s Vange John Memorial Hospice is holding a Community Memorial Service & Live Butterfly Release on June 15 in Victory Square Park, 150 SW10th St. in Hermiston.

The free event is for helping families to celebrate loved ones lost. It goes 12:30-4 p.m. and includes live music from Brass Fire Band, free refreshments (with additional refreshments for purchase) and more. Please bring your own lawn chairs.

HERMISTON — The Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation will host the 31st annual Scramble for Scholarships Golf Tournament on June 7 at Big River Golf Course in Umatilla.

The format in 2024 will be a four-person scramble with a few wrinkles and open to men and women of all skill levels. Participants are encouraged to register as a team, but it is not required. The tournament committee will handicap scores based on submitted handicaps. A complimentary box lunch and registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. The tournament will have a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner, awards, prize winners and scores will be announced following completion of the tournament. Approximate tournament end time is at 5:15 pm.

Tournament prize donations are being accepted, and the donors will be prominently recognized. Hole sponsorships are also available. To donate or sponsor a hole, call the foundation at 541-667-3419.

HERMISTON — Good Shepherd Health Care System is offering a free “Tai Chi for Better Balance” course at the Hermiston Senior Center, 255 NE Second St.

The 12-week course is for those 55 and over and will be held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Classes start June 18 and run to Sept. 5.
