HERMISTON — A road race that centers around Hermiston’s famous landmark is taking to the streets to raise money for the Hermiston cross-country program.
The Butte Challenge is Saturday, June 1, with bib pickup at 7:30 a.m. at Butte Park, 1245 NW Seventh St. The event begins with a free kids race at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K run/walk and 10K run at 8:30 a.m.
Participants will receive custom Butte medals and gift bags at the finish line. In addition, those who pre-register will be entered into a drawing for door prizes.
Registration is $25 via www.buttechallenge.com. Also, family rates start at $85 for four or $90 for up to eight people.

HERMISTON — Bilingual Basketball is holding a 3-on-3 basketball tournament June 8-9, at Armand Larive Middle School in Hermiston.
Teams are limited to four players, and registration is $150 per team.
There are four age divisions — third-fourth grade, fifth-sixth grade, seventh-eighth grade and high school. There are divisions for boys and girls at each age level. The high school teams will play with FIBA 3X rules.
There will be prizes for the winning teams and a 3-point shooting challenge. There also will be free hot dogs and drinks for all the players.
Proceeds will go to support the summer Bilingual Basketball camp.
