From the publisher’s desk: Despite changes, commitment to local news coverage remains

Change is always challenging, particularly when economic pressures dictate modifications beyond our control.

EO Media Group, the parent company of the Hermiston Herald, has announced plans to eliminate 28 positions by the end of June. In response to economic difficulties, the Herald will suspend print publication starting July 1.

This decision stems from a simple reality: operational costs have risen over the past year, while advertising revenue has declined.

While the outlook may appear bleak, it’s important to acknowledge what remains unchanged.

Local news coverage will persist, available to subscribers at www.hermistonherald.com. Additionally, select stories will be featured in a weekly edition of the East Oregonian, encompassing news from all EO Media Group newspapers in Northeast Oregon.

Our commitment to holding officials accountable and providing comprehensive context will endure.

Additionally, Go! Eastern Oregon, our weekly arts and entertainment magazine, will continue to be printed and will be included in the East Oregonian’s weekly distribution.

Though the changes are significant, it’s crucial to recognize that the transition is merely shifting the platform for accessing local news from print to online.

Above all, our dedicated journalists will continue to serve diligently, remaining steadfast in their commitment to our readers.
