Community Women’s Club of Irrigon and Boardman awards scholarships

MORROW COUNTY — The Community Women’s Club of Irrigon and Boardman announced it awarded five scholarships to graduating seniors from Irrigon High School and Boardman’s Riverside High School.

Irrigon students receiving awards include Leah Mueller ($1,500), who plans to major in biology at George Fox University; and Selene Roldan Cardenas ($750), who will major in elementary education at Western Oregon University.

And those from Boardman include Estefani Madrigal Mendoza ($1,500), who will study nursing at Blue Mountain Community College; Wyatt Browne ($750), who plans to study business and marketing at Oregon State University; and Monserrat Pacheco ($750), who will major in biology at OSU.

According to a press release, the yearly scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors planning to attend a university or a trade school. Community involvement and academic achievements are important factors in the selection process.

The Community Women’s Club of Irrigon and Boardman was founded in 1987 to promote a spirit of unity between the two communities. In addition to annual scholarships, the club oversees the flag program at Desert Lawn Memorial Cemetery and supports several community programs by giving their time and making financial donations.
