Crash on Cabbage Hill near Pendleton kills Irrigon woman

PENDLETON — A two-vehicle crash Sunday, June 16, on Interstate 84 near Pendleton claimed the life of an Irrigon woman.
Oregon State Police reported Barbara Claudine Abercrombie, 56. of Irrigon, was driving a Dodge Ram 1500 westbound shortly before 6 p.m. on Interstate 84 near milepost 220 when the pickup struck the rear of a Peterbilt semitrailer going slow with its hazard lights on down the steep grade of Cabbage Hill.
State police reported Abercrombie died at the scene.
Marshall Lee Mondry, 29, of Meridian, Idaho, drove the Peterbilt and was uninjured.
The crash led to the closure of the freeway for about four hours during the on-scene investigation.
The Umatilla Tribal Police Department, Umatilla Tribal Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted state police at the scene.
