From the publisher’s desk: The only constant is change

Change is never easy.

I think we all tend to get comfortable in our jobs or our roles in life so that when change — or opportunities — arrive it can seem daunting.

I know for me it was a tough decision to make regarding my future with EO Media Group but June 21 marked my last day with the company and the end of my time as publisher of the Hermiston Herald.

I’m torn as I reflect on my five years in EO Media Group. On one hand I’ve had the opportunity to work for a great group of leaders and to work with another awesome collection of reporters and editors and other staff.

In fact, I can accurately convey to you, the reader, that I never really contemplated going anywhere else. Yet I’ve learned throughout my career that you can never predict when an opportunity will arrive.

I do not depart with any malice or frustration. EO Media Group is an outstanding organization and I’m terribly sad to leave it. Yes, the company has faced some challenges lately but those are obstacles and challenges that will be overcome.

I will miss Eastern Oregon and the great people and the beautiful landscapes. However, a new opportunity means a new period of learning, growing and, hopefully, better understanding of our great Pacific Northwest.

I bid adieu, but will always have a place in my heart for the Hermiston Herald, its people and this company.
