Hermiston gets almost $183K grant for its airport, plans to expand

HERMISTON — The Hermiston Municipal Airport is receiving a grant of almost $183,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The money is part of more than $2.3 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for eight rural airports throughout Oregon, according to a press release Monday, July 1, from U.S. Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, Democrats from Oregon.
The $182,786 grant to the Hermiston airport is part of many geared toward a $1.5 million project started in May, set to produce 10 airplane hangars, as well as taxi lanes surrounding it.
“The FAA allocates us around $150,000 a year, this is just a continuation of those funds,” Hermiston Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said. “We got $950,000 through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law a few years ago as well.”

With the recent funds, the Hermiston Municipal Airport is making headway on the hangar project and plans on completing it in November.
The other rural airports in Oregon to receive the funds are in Bend,Christmas Valley, Lakeview, North Bend, Ontario, Scappoose and Tillamook.
This is the seventh round of the FAA’s Airport Infrastructure Grants, amounting to $289 million to date.
