Letter: Faith and trust essential for our survival

Published 9:00 am Tuesday, September 3, 2024

A healthy society is based on faith and trust. Without these, we’re doomed to devolve into a more primitive, primal, tribal, soulless species and start tearing each other apart. Literally. And I see these ordinarily limitless resources diminishing rapidly around the world.

So much distrust and dishonesty. So much unfaithfulness. So many out to serve only themselves. Selfishness and self-centering abound. People in positions of authority, who we traditionally rely upon to be trustworthy, are constantly abusing that trust. Corporatized journalists regularly broadcast opinion and false information in the guide of news, if only to turn a larger profit. With artificial intelligence technology, the very nature of reality itself is regularly questioned and doubted.

If we as a species don’t turn this around fast, human society will cease to exist. Because a civilization cannot survive without faith or trust, as it collapses upon itself in destruction.
