Umatilla High softball athletes earn Easton/NFCA-All American honor

- Seven members of the 2024 Umatilla High School softball team earned Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar-Athlete honors.
UMATILLA — Seven members of the 2024 Umatilla High School softball team earned Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar-Athlete honors.
The Umatilla School District in a press release announced graduates Braelyn Cragun, Luis, Ortiz-Cardenas and Maddisyn Rico were recognized, along with juniors Meghan Owens and Sara Wilson and freshmen McKenzie Campos and Rashayla McCallister.
This was the second straight recognition for Cragun, Ortiz-Cardenas, Rico, Owens, and Wilson.
“The spring season can pull our young ladies in a million different directions,” coach Erick Olson said, according to the press release, and that they buy into our focus on being successful in the classroom translates to our continuing growth on the diamond. We are so proud of the efforts made by this group to put themselves in a spot to be successful after high school.”
Olson started nominating student-athletes for the honor in 2023. The Viking program’s 3.08 cumulative GPA put it on the list of the top 95 schools in the nation.
