Dear readers,

A couple of weeks ago I asked for your feedback about what you find valuable/not so valuable in the new regional East Oregonian, and some of you responded.

Thank you so much. Seriously.

One reader finds the comics, astrology report, weather and puzzles at the bottom of the value scale.

“For my money, you could switch all those out for more community news,” this subscriber said.

Along with that came a suggestion of grouping obituaries by county, akin to what we do with death notices. The subscriber added this likely would be more difficult to do it with obituaries.

Indeed it is for a number of reasons. Still, we’ll see what we can do.

Another subscriber is on board with not running the weather graphic: “I do look for the weather forecast on my phone. It changes too fast, I think, for the print medium.”

That’s our consensus as well. So in the most recent print edition of the EO, we did not run the large weather graphic on the last page of the Outdoors & Recreation section and instead packed that area with community briefs. We plan to continue that.

As always, if you have more feedback, we want to hear it.

We also want readers to be clear that sports reporting is no longer part of the EO’s regular coverage.

The cuts we had to make in June eliminated a full time sports reporter and our photographer positions. We still will have occasional reporting on coaching staff and student athletes, but there will not be game or event coverage, updates on team wins and losses and the like.

That goes for covering the Pendleton Round-Up.

We have no one available to cover the rodeo, interview the athletes and post daily results. People interested in that can find what the Round-Up has about the rodeo at pendletonroundup.com, or what the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association has at www.prorodeo.com. And the Cowboy Channel, thecowboychannel.com, shows the actual rodeo.

We are going to have plenty of daily news, though, that is Round-Up related, including on business and entertainment. We’ll post those stories online at www.eastoregonian.com.
