UMATILLA COUNTY — The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office announced it is offering Roth ID Tags at its offices in Pendleton and Hermiston.

The sheriff’s office also will begin to distribute tags to local agencies within the next few weeks.

A Roth ID Tag is an emergency identification tool first responders can use during a traumatic incident when a minor child or person who has become incapacitated cannot communicate who they are or who to contact.

It is an information tag that can be affixed to a child’s car seat. In the event of an emergency, the tag pulls from the car seat and becomes an emergency identification wristband. The tag has identifying information for the child, three emergency contacts and a line for additional information, which can include medical information, a child’s first language or speech limitations.

You can view an instructional video here.

Origin of the Roth ID tag

Julie Roth, wife and mother, was traveling with her two small children on Dec. 23, 2022, when they were caught up in a 47-plus vehicle pile-up on the Ohio Turnpike. Julie and Edna Rose, the baby she was carrying, did not survive, but her two Ayla and Rory Roth are alive and well today and the reason for the creation of the tag.
