Dear readers,
As many of you know, Carpenter Media Group is buying the EO Media Group, which owns the East Oregonian, Hermiston Herald, Baker City Herald and several more newspapers.
The short of it is we are keeping our jobs and continuing to produce news online and weekly in print, and subscribers will continue to get their newspaper and access to our websites. In the days and weeks ahead, we’ll have reports on the following:
— We’re revisiting the dining industry in Eastern Oregon in the wake of 45 people losing restaurant jobs in Pendleton. Local restaurants still struggle to find staff, which has led to places shutting down for a few days at a time or even closing shop.
— Pendleton has not had a market in its downtown in decades. But it does now, and EO reporter Yasser Marte is working on the story.
— The Blue Mountain Eagle is covering the Blue Mountain Hospital District’s search for a new CEO.
— EO reporter Berit Thorson still has the Columbia Development Authority under her scope and has reported on the ongoing discord and disagreement of the board that is supposed to oversee development of the former Army chemical depot near Hermiston.
— Reporter Isabella Crowly with The Observer is working on a deep look at the relationship — or lack thereof — between the community of La Grande and Eastern Oregon University.
So while the EO Media Group sale is big news, we’re keeping our newsrooms focused on reporting local matters that affect the people in Eastern Oregon.
And thank you for reading; if you have yet to subscribe, please consider it.
