HERMISTON — Hermiston Raceway is shutting down and moving its events to the Tri-Cities.

Hermiston Raceway owner Greg Walden — not the former Oregon U.S. representative — announced on the business’s Facebook page on Saturday, Jan. 11, the property owner has sold the facility and the raceway has until Jan. 15 to vacate the premises.

“To say I was caught off guard is an understatement,” according to the post. “We had a verbal agreement to continue in 2025 and were getting a plan together to purchase the facility. We had 10 events planned and were looking forward to a promising 2025 season. But as things stand, it seems we have already held our final event.”

The raceway has operated since 1967. Walden is a former race car driver who runs the track with his daughter, Lacy Walden, and his son, Jody Walden.

“Hermiston Raceway is one of the oldest tracks in Oregon, it’s also the last paved track,” Greg Walden told the East Oregonian in a 2022 interview.

According to the Facebook announcement, Hermiston Raceway is adding its signature events to the existing schedule at Tri-City Raceway.

“With an 11 event schedule planned, we anticipate continued growth and thrilling competition,” according to the post, “making Tri-City Raceway the undisputed hub for motorsports.”
