HERMISTON — Hermiston police arrested a 20-year-old man Monday morning, Jan. 27, during a “high-risk” search.

Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston in a statement reported police arrested Elfrid Joab Herrarte for unlawful possession of cocaine. He remains in the Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton.

According to Edmiston, due to “numerous incidents involving firearms in/around the Hermiston area, Hermiston Police Department officers and detectives investigated and ultimately were granted a warrant to search a residence just outside the city.”

Early Jan. 27, HPD, with assistance from the Oregon State Police SWAT team, served a “high-risk warrant at 29780 Bridge Road.” Members of the Blue Mountain Enforcement Narcotics Team, Umatilla Police Department, Morrow County Sheriff’s Office and the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office also participated in the raid.

Edmiston also said additional charges involving this agency as well as several other agencies may be forthcoming, and Hermiston police will not provide additional details until that time.
