U.S. Cellular announced an expansion of 5G coverage to Hermiston, Boardman, Irrigon and Umatilla. 5G — which stands for “fifth generation” — is the fastest data transmission technology mobile companies currently offer. According to a map at uscellular.com/coveragemap, the new speeds cover most of Hermiston and Boardman, part of Umatilla (excluding McNary), and part of southern Irrigon. It does not extend to Stanfield or Echo yet.

According to a news release from the company, the coverage map will continue to be updated as 5G expands. Oregon is one of 11 states that U.S. Cellular is expanding 5G coverage to in the second half of 2020 after starting out in Iowa and Wisconsin earlier this year.
