PENDLETON — Now is the purr-fect time to adopt a pet from the Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter as PAWS participates in Empty the Shelters, an initiative through the Bissell Pet Foundation.

Addy Sipp, PAWS animal care coordinator, said prospective pet owners receive a substantial discount through July 31. The adoption fee for adult dogs is $50, a savings of more than $100. In addition, adult cats are $25 and kittens are $50.

Sipp said there are currently 15-20 cats onsite. In addition, 20 dogs were recently romping around at the shelter, with more in foster care.

“We have more scheduled to come in,” Sipp said. “As dogs are going out, more are coming in.”

Established in 2016, Empty the Shelters’ mission is to help homeless pets by making adoption more affordable. Bissell provides reimbursements to partnering organizations. Sipp said this is the third year PAWS has participated in the program.

For an adoption application, go to www.pendletonpaws.org/adoption or stop by PAWS, 517 S.E. Third St., Pendleton. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. For questions, call 541-276-0181 or email pawspendleton@gmail.com.
