ECHO — A fire broke out Tuesday, April 16, that damaged a home in Echo.

Echo Fire Department Chief Delbert Gehrke said the alarm came in at 11:48 a.m. and his department dispatched two engines with two tenders and a crew of about 12 to a home at 76122 Rosenberg Road in Echo.

The fire department also asked for assistance from Umatilla County Fire District No. 1, which sent an additional engine with a crew plus three supervisors.

Gehrke said firefighters knocked down the flames about 30-40 minutes after arrival but stayed to check for hot spots. He said he believed the fire began outside a laundry room and spread inside.

Gehrke estimated the damage around $50,000 because the blaze got into the attic and damaged several structural joists. He said the state fire marshal will work on determining the cause of the fire.
