Upcoming events showcase local candidates

A couple dozen people attend a town hall meeting Nov. 27, 2023, at Hermiston City Hall. A candidate forum will be April 4, 2024, at city hall. It includes Hermiston mayor, Umatilla County commissioner and Oregon Senate District 29 candidates.

UMATILLA COUNTY — Several upcoming public forums in Hermiston and Pendleton feature candidates running in local and regional elections.

The first forum is Thursday, April 4, starting at 6 p.m. at Hermiston City Hall, 180 NE Second St. The event features candidates for Hermiston mayor, Umatilla County commissioner and Oregon Senate District 29.

The Umatilla County Republicans hold a forum April 5 starting at 6 p.m. at Hermiston High School for Senate District 29 candidates. Hermiston Mayor Dave Drotzmann, Wallowa County Commissioner Todd Nash, former Morrow County Commissioner Jim Doherty and Andy Huwe, precinct committee person for the Wallowa County Republicans, are each running in the Republican primary.

The Northeast Oregon Home Builders Association meeting April 9, 6 p.m., will have a short question-and-answer session with a focus on housing and land use with Oregon Senate District 29 candidates Doherty, Drotzmann and Nash. The meeting at 855 SW Angus Court, Hermiston, is in one of the student-built homes constructed through the Columbia Basin Student Homebuilders Program.

The Umatilla County Board of Realtors holds a forum April 9, 7 p.m. at the Pendleton Center for the Arts, 214 N. Main St. The forum features candidates running for Pendleton City Council and mayor.

According to a press release from the board, confirmations have been received from Joseph Hull, McKennon McDonald, John Thomas, Sally Brandsen, Brett Mulvihill, Alicia Reynen, Steve Campbell and Kristine Hudson-Bonniot. The candidates will discuss their views with a focus on the housing market in the area. In addition, there will be a time to ask questions.

And Round-Up Republican Women announced Doherty and Nash will be the group’s speakers when it meets April 11 at noon at Roosters Country Kitchen, 1515 Southgate Place, Pendleton.
