- Hermiston's Kellen Young scores a goal over the head of the Richland goalkeeper Russell Posegate (32) on April 19, 2024, at Kennison Field in Hermiston. Young earned Region 6 Central first-team honors as an attacker.
HERMISTON — Hermiston dominated the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Region 6 Central all-conference team, which comes at no surprise after the Bulldogs ran the table with a 10-0 conference record, and finished the season 20-1.
The Bulldogs had five players named at six positions to the first team, led by junior goalkeeper Kaden Hasty, who stopped 131 of 174 shots that came his way.
Over 21 games, Hermiston scored 234 goals and only allowed 96. The Bulldogs lost in the state quarterfinals to Bellevue.
“Kaden’s really the guy who guides the defense and is the glue that holds it together back there,” Hermiston coach Jacob Arnold said. “He tells the guys where the ball is, he commands the defense.”
Hasty might direct the defense, but Jackson Bradshaw was the heart and soul of the defense. He had 86 ground balls.
“Jackson keeps things loose,” Arnold said. “He’s always having fun out there. He is fast and physical. He takes his job seriously, but has a good time.”
Attacker Frankie Trevino led the Bulldogs with 61 goals, with eight assists and 51 ground balls, but it was Kellen Young who kept the ball moving. Young had 55 goals, 46 assists and 71 ground balls.
“The assists are that stat that goes under the radar, but every assist is a goal,” Arnold said. “They communicate well. Kellen is the silent leader. He does all of his talking with his stick, and his stats back that up. Frankie is the vocal one. They both read the defense pretty well. They have been playing together for so long that they have a knack for knowing where each other is on the field.”
Blake Palzinski starts the offense by winning 90% of his face-offs. He also had 37 goals, 51 assists and 257 ground balls. He was honored as a midfielder and top face-off man.
“It all starts there,” Arnold said. “If you control the face-off, you control the offense and set it into motion. As a freshman, when you face-off every day against Carson Bradshaw (2022 graduate), you get better. He puts in the extra work.”
Young, Hasty, Bradshaw and Palzinski are all juniors and will return next season.
