HERMISTON Alonzo A. Lockwood died at his home in Hermiston on Monday, Aug. 20, at the age of 98.
Alonzo was born in Union Gap, Wash., on May 11, 1903, to George and Ora Porter Lockwood. He had been a resident of Hermiston for the past 32 years, and had worked as a logger for many years and was a horseshoer. He was a member of the Carpenter Union and the American Veterans Post No. 16 in Springfield. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy Seabees.
Alonzo was preceded in death by his wife, Versie, in 1999.
He is survived by a son, Layton Lockwood of Hermiston; a daughter, Barbara Lockwood of Redmond; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial graveside service was held Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Prairie Creek Cemetery in Joseph. Disposition was by cremation.
Memorials may be made to St. Marys Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wash. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston was in charge of the arrangements.
