Stanley Frank Ziegenbein

PORTLAND Stanley Frank Ziegenbein died at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Portland on Thursday, Feb. 22, at the age of 70.

Stanley was born in Hood River on May 4, 1930, to Stanley and Theresa Kollas Ziegenbein. He was raised in Hood River and graduated from Hood River High School. He worked as a mechanic on farm equipment maintenance, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Air Force working with electronics and radar.

He married his wife, Ruth, on March 7, 1953, in Winnemucca, Nev., and they lived in Blackfoot, Idaho, for 30 years before moving to Hermiston. They have lived in Hermiston for the past nine years.

Stanley was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled War Veterans and the Audubon Society. His hobbies included fishing, snowmobiling, woodworking, landscape painting, ceramics and electronics.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Hermiston; daughters, Patricia Ann Boyle of Hermiston, and Shirley Mae Balderaz and Linda Kay Dance, both of Nampa, Idaho; brother, Lester Ziegenbein of Hood River; sister, Alice Ehlinger of Portland; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two aunts; six uncles; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 3, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Disposition was by cremation.
