UMATILLA — City Councilor Daren Dufloth has agreed to a $500 fine to settle government ethics violations.
The agreement with the Oregon Government Ethics Commission becomes official Friday morning, April 25, during the commission’s regular meeting.
Dufloth on March 11 signed a stipulated final order and agreed to pay a fine rather than move forward with a contested case hearing to dispute the violations the commission founf. In general, the ethics commission focuses on education rather than penalties.
The counts include three violations of failing to announce a conflict of interest, one violation of using his position for personal financial gain, and one violation of failing to report business income more than $1,000.
The final order states: “Daren Dufloth contends that he did not willfully or intentionally violate ORS 244.040(1 ), ORS 244.060(8), or ORS 244.120(2) however, in order to conclude this matter, he has agreed to the terms and conditions in this order.”
By agreeing to the order, Dufloth will pay the $500 civil penalty by June 1 to settle the matter.
