The public is invited to participate in a “meet and greet” with Hermiston High School principal candidate Jocelyn Jones from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the HHS library.

The Hermiston School District is undergoing a search for current principal Buzz Brazeau, who recently announced he had accepted a job as superintendent of the Central School District in Independence/Monmouth.

After discussion by high school staff members and direction from the Hermiston School District Board of Directors Personnel Committee, the district decided to first review internal applicants for the job.

Jones, currently the HHS assistant principal, is the sole internal applicant. She will make a brief presentation at Wednesday’s event, and then be available for 30 minutes to answer questions from attendees.

People in attendance will also be asked complete an anonymous feedback card, to be presented to the formal interview committee for consideration in its deliberations.

The formal interview committee, a twelve member group, consists of representatives from the Board of Education, high school licensed and classified staff, Booster Club, parents and district staff.

Following the formal interview and review of feedback, the interview committee will recommend to Interim Superintendent Smith the course of action to take.

This is an extremely critical hire for our high school, district, and community, Smith said. We want to ensure that we involve as many stakeholders as feasible and conduct the process in an open and transparent manner, in order to vet out the best possible candidate.
