Thieves hit Scott’s Cycles

Two BMX bicycles valued at a total of $1,000 were stolen from Scotts Cycle & Sport earlier this week.

Scott Cimmiyotti has owned Scotts Cycle in Hermiston, as well as a bicycle shop in Kennewick, for 19 years. He said while located at its previous location on East Main Street, his store was burglarized. But this is the first time the store has been burglarized in at least 12 years at the East Highland Avenue location.

A family friend called him before 7 a.m. Tuesday to report someone had broken a double-paned window at the storefront facing East Highland.

The theft occurred sometime between 5 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to a police report.

The thief or thieves reached inside the window and took the closest bicycles, two WethePeople German bicycles, he said.

Cimmiyotti believes a thief or thieves used tools such as cutters to break the storefront window because they also cut the latch on his shed.

Cimmiyotti said he believes whoever took the bikes had come to the store with the intention of robbing the business because they overlooked items inside the shed.

I hope they dont hit me again, he said Wednesday. It could have been a lot worse.

As for total damage to the store window, he said, I havent gotten that bill yet.

Other businesses reported recently been hit by thieves as well.

An East Hurlburt Avenue business also reported an outdoor table and chair set taken on Monday. Teri and Jim Ruhe have owned Ambiance Skin Care & Salon for six years without a theft.

Ruhe reported the outdoor furniture, valued at $150, was stolen from in front of the Hermiston store sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning last week.

Weve been here six years and nothings ever happened, Teri Ruhe said.  You just dont think somebody would take it.

A cleaning business also reported wire cut from a fence behind the property on East Diagonal Boulevard earlier this week.

Anyone with information on the missing bicycles are asked to contact HPD Officer Gutierrez at 541-567-5519, ext. 4403, or by email at vgutierrez@hermiston.or.us.
