Four Mile Lake, Ore. – A wildfire has blackened about 100 acres of land near Four Mile Lake near the Jackson / Klamath county line.

Don Lacrone says he was one of the first to spot the fire Monday morning.

Lacrone says he was fishing from his kayak on Four Mile Lake when he noticed a puff of smoke, and went ashore to investigate…

“There was a fire pit. Somebody had stacked the rocks around to build themselves a fire. But, they built it on top of the duff – and it burned through the duff, and was catching the trees on fire.”

Lacrone says he made an attempt to put out the fire…

“All I could do was run in and smash and pop with the paddles I got, try to pull out as much of the logs and timber from the trees so it doesn’t got to the top – but it got to the top.”

The ‘Launch’ fire has forced the closure of the Four Mile Lake Campground, and several trails.

Two helicopters, eight engines, and one hand crew have been working to put out the fire at Four Mile Lake.
