People living in drought stricken states like California, Nevada and Arizona better listen up. The CEO of Levi Strauss, has some advise: Don’t wash your jeans. Not only will you conserve water but you’ll have denim jeans that last a long, long time.

Chip Bergh’s comments came at a recent Fortune Brainstorm Green conference where Bergh said the pair of jeans he was wearing had “yet to see a washing machine” in over a year.

Instead of putting jeans in the washing machine, Bergh recommended spot cleaning with a sponge or toothbrush or putting them in your freezer to kill bacteria.
